AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
The Abiding Place
The Abiding Place is a transitional housing program created by the Dayton Dream Center. This program is designed for individuals who have aged out of the foster care system and may be facing homelessness and other vulnerabilities. At The Abiding Place we provide a new journey to a stable, healthy, and responsible adulthood in a safe, caring and supportive environment. We hope everyone will experience positive growth and be prepared to live the best life God has prepared for each person. Our program splits the growth journey into four phases with each phase having responsibilities and privileges that seek to prepare residents for successful adulthood experiences.
The Abiding Place provides its residents with a holistic approach. Treating the mind, body and spirit as one entity. Providing a program which includes physical fitness and nutritional encouragement, life skills education, life-coaching, and spiritual application.
Residents may come into adulthood with inner wounds from adverse life experiences. To address this, The Abiding Place assists the residents in life-coaching/counseling to uncover individual needs. Residents may be referred to outside local services to fulfill further counseling needs.
The program is based on a twelve-month timeline; however this timeline is just an estimation. Some residents may require more time in the program to reach the confidence for, and capability of, independent living. There is not a set time limit for a resident to stay within The Abiding Place, however, residents will regularly work with staff to establish independent living.
